Our Story
As a couple with a child with a disability, our founders developed a deep passion for providing high-quality care that truly makes a meaningful difference. Their personal journey of navigating systems, advocating for their child, and seeking compassionate support inspired the creation of Ultimate Support Services, Inc.
They understand the challenges that families face because they have lived them. This shared experience shaped the foundation of USS: empathy, respect, and an unwavering commitment to person-centred care.
Today, they are proud to serve individuals across Central, Western, and Southern Maryland, offering comprehensive support services that empower people with developmental disabilities to live independent, fulfilling, and dignified lives.

Excellence Through Education
At Ultimate Support Services, we believe that exceptional care begins with exceptional training. Our comprehensive staff development program ensures that every team member has the knowledge, skills, and expertise to provide the highest-quality support to the individuals we serve.
Certifications & Training for Direct Care Staff
Our Direct Support Professionals undergo comprehensive training to ensure they can provide safe, effective, and compassionate care:
- Direct Support Professional (DSP) Certification: Ensures staff provide personalized, person-centred care for individuals with developmental disabilities, focusing on dignity, respect, and individual choice.
- CPR & First Aid Certification: Prepares staff to handle medical emergencies with confidence, utilizing American Red Cross or other nationally-recognized training programs.
- Mandt System Certification: Trains staff in crisis intervention and behavior management with a respectful, relationship-based approach that prioritizes safety and dignity.
- Certified Medication Technician (CMT): Ensures safe medication administration and documentation, maintaining the highest standards of health management.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification: Equips staff with proven de-escalation techniques for challenging situations, prioritizing safety and positive outcomes.
- Health Risk Screening Tool (HRST) Training: Enables staff to assess and monitor health risks effectively, ensuring proactive health management.
- Blood-Borne Pathogens Training (OSHA Compliance): Ensures staff understand infection control protocols and maintain safe environments for participants and themselves.
- Specialized Health Training: Staff receive training in seizure disorders, choking prevention, fall risk management, and other health-specific areas based on participant needs.
Ongoing Professional Development
Learning doesn’t stop after initial training. USS is committed to continuous staff development through:
- Regular in-service training throughout the year
- Annual refresher courses on health, safety, and DDA regulations
- Updates on new DDA policies and procedures
- Skill-building workshops and educational opportunities
- Performance evaluations at 30, 60, 90, 120, and 180 days, then annually
- Mentorship and coaching from experienced team members
Quality Assurance & Monitoring
We maintain rigorous standards to ensure training translates into excellent care:
- Comprehensive documentation of all training completion
- Regular audits of staff certifications and renewals
- Random program evaluations by administrators to assess staff knowledge
- Monitoring of staff performance in implementing individual goals and PCPs
- Immediate retraining when gaps in knowledge or performance are identified
- Six-week advance notice of expiring certifications to ensure timely renewals
Pre-Service Requirements
Before working independently with participants, all new staff must:
- Complete comprehensive criminal background checks and drug/alcohol screening
- Pass all required pre-service training modules
- Receive a thorough orientation on agency policies, procedures, and philosophy
- Complete training specific to each individual they will support
- Demonstrate competency in their assigned duties
- Receive verification from the Program Director that all training is complete
No staff member works independently until fully trained and qualified.
